Born to Run

I used to run.  I used to run a lot.  I used to run cross-country.  And I used to love it.  I miss it now and miss being in the best shape of my life.  So 2011 is the year I am going to get back into running.  I have been running/walking on the treadmill at the gym since it is absolutely freezing outside.  Even thought it is not the same (and not as fun) it is a start and better alternative to not working out at all.

To ensure I am going to stick to my goal I have decided to enter a few races so far this year.  First I agreed to run/walk a 1/2 marathon in St. Louis with my friend/coworker/office mate Cortney.  Now I have never, even when I was running cross country, attempted a 1/2 marathon.  It makes me crazy nervous but I have always wanted to run a marathon (my daddy used to run them and I have spent my entire life trying to be more like him).  The 1/2 marathon is in April so I do not have tons of time train.  Which is why I am pretty proud of myself this week.  I have gone to the gym on a Sunday, on a snow day, by myself, and even skipping out on a yummy Mexican meal to hit the gym tonight after work.

If the 1/2 marathon was not enough, another friend/coworker asked me today if I would run a 5K with her on the 19th (yes, in 2 weeks).  It's called Yeti-Set-Run and it sounds pretty funny.  People are encouraged to dress in costumes and make snowmen on the route.  Though that sounds insane fun I think I am going to opt for warm running clothes.  Guess I need to hit the outdoor stores in town to invest in some warm running clothes.  There is no way out of this 5K-already registered online and paid them $20.  Oh boy-let's all hope pray I make it without having: a major asthma attack, frostbite, knee injuries, and/or being the last person across the finish line.

Other 5K's are in my future I am sure.  Which is good-I am going to need all the help/training I can get to finish that 1/2 marathon!!

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2011!   I rang in the New Year with some great friends at a pretty classy joint called The Vault.  We drank delicious drinks and grubbed on some complimentary popcorn.  The gang was looking pretty good and we had a blast.  I will post pictures when I stop being lazy and upload them from my camera.

Have spent the first day of 2011 watching football in my sweats.  Guess I am trying to be more like a dude this year.  Though I do not believe in making resolutions (never keep them), I do plan on getting healthy (and staying that way).  I also want to find a place in this world where I finally feel happy.  Not that I do not love my friends here in CoMO and enjoy having my parents so close, but this town is not where I am meant to remain.   First things first though-buying plane tickets to Cali for spring break.  Got I miss that crazy, messed up state!

Happy New Year peeps!!  Let's take 2011 by storm!
